If you are reading this then that means that Visit 0 was successful or at least partially successful.
Are you asking yourself "What the H is visit 0?" "what is she talking about" "who is this woman" and "why are the Miller's going against IVF?"
Let me give you some background info to help you out.
For those who don't know us I'm Emily and my husband is Nate we have a little one who we will call "M" cause I don't know how I feel about putting her full name on the blogosphere. We met fell in love bla bla gushy stuff. 6 months after we got married we found out we were pregnant. I was super excited, Nate was stoic for lack of a better word. I could see him mentally crunching numbers. He eventually warmed up to the idea.
At our first apointment we found out that I had an ectopic pregnancy which is defined as "a pregnancy that occurs outside the womb (uterus)." Mine happened to be in one of my tubes. After about 2 weeks of trying different things to avoid surgery it became inevitable. During surgery I lost a tube and the doctor noticed that my tubes were damaged beyond repair and had to go tell Nate that we would most likely not have a child without medical help. This was confirmed with a series of tests over the next few months. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) would be our only chance.
I read about a clinic in New York where they are taking applicants for a clinical study comparing two different types of IVF. Arm A -Mini (unmedicated) and Arm B- Conventional (with meds). All I had to do was pass the prescreening, medical history and have a known fertility issue, compromised tubes in my case. Someone liked us enough to let us continue to Visit 0 in New York City. It took some planning and arranging of schedules but we made it. During visit 0 we did paperwork, signed more papers then closing on a house, talked about the two procedures, did blood work, took other tests and eventually we were told if we would be good candidates for the study or not. As long as the remainder of the blood work comes back ok we are in. We will find out what "arm" of the study we are in at the next visit on march 17th or around then.
The purpose of this is to keep whoever wants to be informed up to date on progress without throwing it all on Facebook. It is meant for friends and family but if people wonder on I'm alright with that too.
I am in no way a talented writer nor do I aspire to be.
That should answer most of the questions. I'll try to update as much as possible but for the next few weeks it will be pretty boring!
